There is nothing better than a steaming cup of hot chocolate on a chilly evening. Hot cocoa and hot chocolate are beverages that can be given a twist with a number of toppings and addition. The versatility of flavors that they blend with gives us a lot of scope for experimentation. From marshmallows to fruits to cookies, read on to find out your favorite topping.
1. Marshmallows and cream
You canât go wrong with this, the most preferred topping universally, the gooey marshmallow and the sweetened cream is the perfect topping. Work your way through the cream to reach the warm liquid hot chocolate.
2. Peanut butter
The crunch of peanut butter and the hot chocolate is a combination to die for. Dissolve 1 tsp. peanut butter in 1 tbsp. of hot cocoa. Top it up with whipped cream and peanut butter candies.
3. Cocoa sundae
Make your own sundae by adding some whipped cream, chopped almonds, dulce de leche ice cream, and to top it all â a cherry.
4. Raspberry jam
Stir in 1 teaspoon of seedless raspberry jam to add some fruit flavor to your Cocoa, top it up with whipped cream.
5. Tropical cocoa
Add some zing to your cocoa with 1/2 tsp. grated orange peel, garnish with whipped cream and a dash of cinnamon.
6. Peppermint cocoa
Add 1/2 tsp. peppermint extract to your hot cocoa/chocolate and garnish chocolate sprinkles, top it off with some with peppermint candies.
7. Coffee
Combine 1-1/2 tsp. instant coffee with 1 tbsp. each orange, almond and coffee flavor syrups and add it to your cocoa.
8. Chocolate excess
There is nothing like an overdose of chocolate. Crumble some chocolate chip cookie, drizzle chocolate syrup over it, garnish with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
You can also add eggnog, cinnamon stick, cayenne pepper, chili powder, ground ginger, star anise, mint chocolate chip ice cream, toasted coconut shavings, butterscotch chips, crushed gingerbread cookie to give some twist to your cup of hot chocolate.
