10 Fish recipes for a delicious treat

Fish has always been an important part of the diet and has been consumed for ages. Fish is known to be a rich source of protein and of Omega 3 fatty acids which help in cutting down cholesterol. Fish is not only a healthy option but also a tasty one which takes less time to cook. Here are 10 fish simple fish recipes. The ingredients are easily available and the complexity ranges from easy to moderate.

1. Fish with Prawn salad

Complexity level: Easy

Time taken: 30 mins

Ingredients:

1 cup poached fish fillet

1 cup cooked prawn

2 cups torn lettuce

Dressing:

1 tablespoon mustard paste

lemon juice

¼ cup salad oil

Crushed pepper

Salt

Method:

Whisk all the ingredients for the dressing.

In a bowl, mix the seafood and lettuce.

Add the dressing and mix well.

2. Kerala Fried Fish

Complexity level: Easy

Time taken: 30 mins

Ingredients:

500 gms Surmai

1 tbsp chilli powder

1 tsp pepper

Paste of 1 onion

1 tbsp ginger garlic paste

3 sprigs of curry leaf paste

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Oil

Salt

Method :

Make paste of ingredients from 2 to 6.

Marinate the fish with the paste.

Heat oil in a pan and shallow fry the fish for 5 minutes each side.

Serve Hot.

3. Bengali Style Fish Curry

Time taken: 1 hour

Ingredients:

500 grams Rohu

½ cup mustard oil

2 tablespoon yellow mustard

1 tsp garlic paste

5 nos. red chillies

1 tsp coriander powder

5 dried mango pieces

Marinade:

1 tbsp garlic paste

1 tsp chilli powder

Salt

Method:

Marinate the fish with the marinade.

Heat the oil till smoking point and then fry the fish pieces. Drain and set aside.

Prepare the curry paste by grinding mustard seeds, garlic and spices with salt.

In the very same oil add the above curry paste and fry for 2 minutes.

Then add the fried fish and mango pieces

Then add 2 cups water and bring to a boil and simmer for 5 mins.

Serve hot.

4. Steamed fish with lemony garlic butter

Complexity level: Easy

Time taken: 30 mins

Ingredients:

300 grams Pomfret fillet

5 tablespoon Butter

1 teaspoon minced garlic

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon minced parsley

Salt and pepper

Method:

Sprinkle salt and pepper over the fish and keep aside for sometime.

Place 2 pieces each of fish on foil paper and make packets out of it.

Steam the packets for 10 minutes

Meanwhile melt butter in a pan and add garlic and sauté for 1 minute.

Bake it off the gas and add the lemon juice, salt and parsley.

Once the fish is cooked place the fish on a plate and after opening pour the flavoured butter over it and serve hot.

5. Smoked salmon sandwiches

Ingredients:

4 Smoked Salmon Slices

4 White Bread Slices

3 tablespoon Cheese spread

1 tablespoon Cocktail dressing

Method:

Mix the cheese spread and cocktail dressing and apply on one side of the slices of bread

Place the 2 pieces of smoked salmon on dressing side of bread

Cover with the other slice of bread like a sandwich.

Cut into pieces and serve

6.Tuna Sandwiches

Complexity level: Easy

Time taken: 15 mins

Ingredients:

1 can cooked tuna

Bread slices

Juice of half a lemon

3 tablespoon mayonnaise

1 small cucumber chopped fine

1 teaspoon mustard

1 teaspoon Ketchup

Method:

Flake the tuna with a fork

Mix all the other ingredients and spread over one side of the bread.

Cover with another bread slice and serve.

7. Grilled Tuna

Complexity level: Easy

Time taken: 30 mins

Ingredients:

2 tuna steaks

Marinade

1 tablespoon sweet soya sauce

1 teaspoon minced ginger

1 teaspoon lemon juice

Method:

Marinate the tuna with the marinade for 20 minutes.

Then grill them for 5 minutes each side and serve.

8. Fried Fish

Complexity level: Easy

Time taken: 20 mins

Ingredients:

4 fish fillets

1 tsp chilli powder

½ cup refined flour

Salt and pepper

Oil

Method:

Whisk all dry ingredients and coat fish with it

Heat oil in a pan and add coated fish and fry.

Serve with lemon slices.

9. Baked fish

Complexity level: Moderate

Time taken: 1 hour

Ingredients:

4 fish fillet steamed

2 tablespoon refined flour

2 tablespoon butter

1 cup milk

1 cup grated cheese

Salt and pepper

Method:

In a pan heat butter.

Then add flour and fry till a bit golden and then add milk. Stir well till cooked. Add pepper and salt.

Place fish in a casserole and over it pour the milk mixture and then cover it with cheese.

And bake in oven at 180 degrees for 20 minutes.

Serve.

10. Tandoori Pomfret

Complexity level: Moderate

Time taken: 30 mins

Ingredients:

2 pomfrets, cleaned

2 tablespoon lemon juice

1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste

¾ cup curd

2 tablespoon besan

½ teaspoon ajwain paste

½ teaspoon each chillie and turmeric powder

1 teaspoon garam masala

Butter

Method:

Marinate the fish with ingredients from 2 to 7 for 20 minutes.

Cook in oven at 200 degrees for 8-10 minutes basting with butter frequently.

Serve hot.
