How do I introduce kefir drink into my family’s diet chart? Can I make it at home itself?

I have two kids, twelve and fourteen respectively and have a loving but an overweight husband. I have heard a lot about the kefir drink and want introduce it to my family. But I have lots of doubts in my mind about it. Can you tell me how do I introduce the kefir drink into my family’s diet? Can I make it at home itself? What if I’m lactose intolerant, and don’t consume dairy products? What do you suggest?
